CVMVC Newsletter Autumn 2017

CVMVC open their 2017/2018 season on Saturday, October 21st with a concert at the Amersham Free Church on Woodside Road, starting at 7.30. The choir’s repertoire has been extended, and there is an International theme to the evening

Also, in keeping with the choir’s policy of encouraging exceptional young talent, it will be joined by two brothers, both of whom are award winning young pianists:

Yazdi Madon, the younger brother, is ten years of age and a keen pianist, cellist and composer. In September this year he joined the Purcell School for Young Musicians where he studies piano with Patsy Toh and cello with Julian Metzger.

Previously, whilst at Monks Risborough CE Primary School, he participated fully in the musical life of the school. This involved performing piano solos, playing his cello in the Minstrel ensemble group and choral singing at community and church events. A special highlight was the opportunity to sing in the Young Voices Concert at the O2 Arena in January this year.

In the summer term of 2017 he was pleased to gain 100% in his Grade 6 piano recital exam with the London College of Music. Shortly afterwards he attained a high distinction in the ABRSM Grade 8 piano exam.

Yazdi regularly takes part in music festivals and has won a variety of prizes over the years. Recently this has included the Junior Recital prize at the Marlow Festival of Music & Drama (2015); the most promising Junior Performer Award at Chesham Arts Festival (2016), the Junior Recital prize at Maidenhead Festival of Music & Dance (2016) and the Latarche-Manning Cup for the highest mark in the examination classes at the West London Pianoforte Festival (2016).This year he was honoured to have been selected to play at the RIBI Young Musician Competition.

As well as his musical interests, Yazdi is an enthusiastic artist and studies with local artist Stewart Clough.

The older brother, Firoze Madon, was born in Buckinghamshire in 2004 and received his early education at Monks Risborough CE Primary School. He subsequently joined the Purcell School for Young Musicians in September 2014 where he studies piano with Patsy Toh, violin with Sagadat Mamedova-Rashidova and composition with Simon Speare.

Since starting at Purcell he has been selected to take part in many piano concerts, both internal and external to the school. In addition he plays piano in a contemporary music ensemble and as a keen composer has had his compositions performed at school concerts. His year group have won the Purcell Junior Prize for Composition for the last three years.

Firoze also enjoys playing in music festivals. This year he has won awards for being the most promising senior performer at the Chesham Arts Festival; the most promising musician at the Hounslow Festival of Music, Speech and Drama; the runner up at a RIBI Regional Final held in Colchester; the Open Recital and Concerto winner at the Blackheath Music Festival; the Open Exhibition winner at the Ealing Festival of Music, Dance & Speech.

He was a soloist at the Young International Piano Festival in Deruta, Italy in 2016, where he performed a thirty minute recital. He also gave a recital at Wolfson College, Oxford in 2017. He is delighted to have been invited by the Chess Valley Male Voice Choir to perform in their concert at Amersham Free Church.

Besides his musical interests, Firoze enjoys football, badminton and swimming
